This course will address the design components and planning considerations identified in the IgCC that promote code compliance, occupant safety, and community resilience. The course identifies the critical safety and resilience considerations that are made in the design and plan approval process that can impact site safety and project efficiency. We will review examples from the plans approval process; how plan details and code analysis support green construction practices; and the various code compliance expectations for commercial and residential projects. We will take a look at how the code requirements of the base International Green Construction Code and state-specific amendments address components, materials, assemblies, and equipment functionality; how design details impact equipment efficiency and system layout; and how in-field decisions can affect overall project code compliance and the role that site inspection plays in the final provision of safe and code compliant buildings.
