Mid-career residential inspectors and plans examiners will find this seminar insightful as will designers looking for a review of new requirements for fire-resistance between dwelling and townhome units, addition of solar panels and energy storage systems. The requirements for two-family dwelling and townhome fire-resistance have changed in some unusual ways in the 2024 IRC. The provisions are reviewed and consequences of the changes are discussed. Topics included stacked and semi-stacked two-family dwellings, imaginary lot lines and staggered placement of townhomes. As energy storage systems and solar panels are added to existing and new homes, requirements for their placement and safe use are added to the code. New requirements for storage new the dwelling or garage are added as well as minimum distance between stacks of the ESS.
