The 2021 IBC has already been adopted or is soon to be adopted by major jurisdictions around the country. This part discusses changes in the remainder of ACI 318-19 Chapter 23 - Strut and Tie Method; 24 -Serviceability, 25 - Reinforcement Details, 26 - Construction Documents and Inspection, 27 - Strength Evaluation of Existing Structures, and Appendix A - Design Verification Using Nonlinear Response History Analysis. Changes in 2021 IBC Chapter 22, Steel and Chapter 23, Wood are also discussed in this part. ANSI/AWC SDPWS – Special Design Provisions for Wind and Seismic was updated from its 2015 to its 2021 edition in the 2021 IBC. Major changes between the two editions are discussed in this webinar.

Dr. S. K. Ghosh is known internationally for his work in earthquake engineering. He has influenced seismic design provisions in the United States for many years by serving on or chairing numerous committees and advisory panels. He specializes in the analysis and design, including wind and earthquake resistant design, of reinforced and prestressed concrete structures. Dr. Ghosh is active on many national technical committees and is a fellow of ASCE, SEI, ACI, and PCI. He is a member of ACI Committee 318, Standard Building Code, and the ASCE 7 Standard Committee (Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures). He is a former member of the Boards of Direction of the Building Seismic Safety Council (BSSC), the American Concrete Institute (ACI), and the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute (EERI). In addition to authoring many publications in the area of structural design, he has investigated and reported on structural performance in recent earthquakes.

Buddy Showalter, P.E., M.ASCE is a senior staff engineer with the International Code Council's (ICC) product development group. He develops technical resources in support of the structural provisions of the International Building Code and International Residential Code. Showalter reviews publications authored by the Code Council and engineering groups, while also developing publications and technical seminars on the structural provisions of the International Codes for building departments, designers and special inspectors. He is the project lead in the development of Mass Timber Buildings and the IBC and associated education programs, jointly developed by ICC and the American Wood Council (AWC). A graduate of Virginia Tech, Showalter has also been a member of the editorial board for STRUCTURE magazine for more than 15 years. Before joining ICC, Showalter spent 26 years with AWC where he led its technology transfer program with oversight responsibility for publications, website, helpdesk, education and other technical media. He has more than 35 years of experience in the development and support of building codes and standards, publishing more than 60 technical articles for industry-related trade journals.

Kirsten Zeydel, S.E., is the President of ZO Consulting and a Structural Consultant with S.K. Ghosh Associates. She is a licensed Structural Engineer, based in Southern California, with over twenty years of experience in the design of cold-formed steel framing. She has led the structural design of exterior/interior non-load-bearing and load-bearing cold-formed steel framing for buildings across the United States. She has also successfully taken many projects through the rigorous California Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development and the California Division of the State Architect. In practice, Kirsten Zeydel specializes in panelized cold-formed steel construction and the design/coordination of exterior building “skins” in order to ensure they perform as expected during earthquakes and wind events.
