This specification covers polyethylene (PE) plastic pipe made in schedule 40 size for use with insert fittings and pressure-rated for water. Polyethylene plastics shall meet the requirements as defined by short-term and long-term strength tests, hydrostatic design stresses, PE plastic extrusion compound, and rework material. This specification also includes classification criteria, nomenclature system, test methods, requirements, workmanship, dimensions, carbon black content, bond strength, sustained pressure, density, burst pressure, and environmental stress cracking. Test methods shall include conditioning, sampling, density, sustained pressure test, environmental stress cracking test, elevated temperature test, and burst pressure test.
