The 2018 Wood Design Package brings together all required elements for design of wood structures in one comprehensive document. It includes design information for wind and seismic conditions, sawn lumber, structural glued laminated timber, structural-use panels, shear walls and diaphragms, poles and piles, I-joists, structural composite lumber, structural connections (nails, bolts, screws), and cross-laminated timber.
NDS for Wood Construction, 2018 Edition: The 2018 National Design Specification (NDS) for Wood Construction was developed by the American Wood Council's (AWC) Wood Design Standards Committee and has been approved by ANSI as an American National Standard. The 2018 NDS is referenced in the 2018 International Building Code. Significant additions to the 2018 NDS include new Roof Sheathing Ring Shank nails and fastener head pull-through design provisions to address increased wind loads in ASCE 7-16 Minimum Design Loads and Associated Criteria for Buildings and Other Structures.
NDS Supplement: Design Values for Wood Construction, 2018 Edition: Design provisions in the NDS are integral with design values in the NDS Supplement. As such, it is not appropriate to mix design values and provisions from different editions of the NDS. The NDS Supplement contains design values for sawn lumber, structural glued laminated timber, and round timber poles and piles.
