PART 1: 2024 IEBC - Introduction and Prescriptive Path (Recording)

Part 1 of this course provides an overall introduction to the layout of the IEBC as well as a discussion of its importance. The portions of the code that apply to all projects are discussed. The IEBC provides multiple paths for compliance, and Part 1 of this presentation focuses on the ``Prescriptive`` path.

Part 2 focuses on the ``Work Area`` and ``Performance`` paths of compliance. Examples are provided for each. The last portion of the class includes example projects that are looked at from a prescriptive, work area, and performance approach so that attendees have a good feel for the limitations and benefits of each method.

Speaker Bio

Mr. Kimball is a licensed civil, structural, and fire protection engineer as well as an International Code Council (ICC) Master Code Professional. He is certified by ICC as a building official, fire code official, combination plans examiner, combination building inspector, and more. He received his master’s degree with an emphasis in structural engineering and is the Co-Founder of Building Code Solutions, Inc. (BCS). He has performed plan reviews for thousands of projects throughout the United States and is an approved ICC instructor. Mr. Kimball is the author of the 2018 International Existing Building Code Handbook and co-authored the 2018 and 2021 International Building Code Illustrated handbooks along with the 2021 and 2024 International Existing Building Code Commentary.
