Rarely are communities fully prepared when responding to disaster events. A condition that results from communities being left on their own to struggle with developing disaster preparedness plans, evaluating post-event damage, determining whether structures can be re-inhabited, and requesting and obtaining necessary resources. The WDS Institute provides building departments with training, guidance and access to resources to enable and empower them in the wake of disasters.

This training session introduces ICC’s When Disaster Strikes (WDS) Institute and its various training courses. This training begins by reviewing the post-disaster roles and responsibilities typically assigned to building departments in the wake of disasters. This course then goes on to provide an overview of the various WDS Institute training and a discussion of what each cover. This training then goes on to discuss the various delivery options and accompanying certification opportunities available.

The goals of this training are to increases awareness of ICC’s When Disaster Strikes (WDS) Institute, its various training courses, accompanying certification opportunities, and reference materials.
