The 2027 IFC® contains regulations to safeguard life and property from fires and explosion hazards. Topics include general precautions, emergency planning and preparedness, fire department access and water supplies, automatic sprinkler systems, fire alarm systems, special hazards, and the storage and use of hazardous materials. Key changes to the 2027 IFC include:
- New Chapter 43 for batteries and battery-powered equipment and devices greatly expands battery storage requirements. (F230-24)
- Revision and expansion of the hazardous materials definitions to incorporate The Globally Harmonized System (GHS) for material classifications including pyrophoric, oxidizing, organic peroxide, corrosive, flammable and combustible materials is added to the IFC. - Adding requirements for minimum oxygen concentration detection in spaces employing cryogenic inert gases (F247-24 and F248-24)
- Creation of Appendix Q - Short term-rental safety program (F280-24)
