Backflow MasterClass #4: Standards, tools and troubleshooting (Learn Live)
Cross-Connection Control Surveys
What is a Cross-Connection Control Survey, Who Should Do It and When?
A cross-connection control survey is conducted to detect and document any connections between drinking water and non-drinking water sources that could allow contamination to enter the water supply. The survey helps ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards and supports safe drinking water practices, particularly for commercial and industrial properties.
The survey must be performed by a person trained in cross-connection control due to the vagaries of plumbing system pipework and the potential risks associated with backflow and contamination.
Rainwater Storage and Backflow
Rainwater storage systems must be protected from cross-connection risks when connected to a potable water supply. Backflow prevention devices are required to ensure treated drinking water cannot be contaminated by rainwater, which may contain debris, pollutants, or microorganisms. Correct system design helps ensure both water sources remain safe and compliant with regulatory requirements.
