AC362 establishes guidelines for evaluation of masonry adhesives that are alternatives to Type M, N, O and S Portland cement/lime masonry mortar that shall be used in lieu of mortar in the head and bed joints, or bed joints only, of masonry with the first course of masonry set into a setting bed of code-complying mortar applied to a concrete foundation. This criteria is limited to the use of masonry adhesives in grouted or ungrouted plain (unreinforced) or solid grouted or partially grouted, reinforced, non-fire-resistance-rated masonry construction consisting of open and closed, hollow concrete masonry units complying with ASTM C 90. The masonry is used in bearing walls, nonload-bearing walls, retaining walls, foundation stem walls and piers.
