AC133 establishes guidelines for evaluation of mechanical splice systems used to connect uncoated, deformed steel reinforcing bars installed in concrete. This criteria is applicable to reinforcing bar splices that are field-assembled onto the ends of reinforcing bars that have been prepared at a factory or the jobsite, and it is also applicable to reinforcing bar splices that include components that are factory-attached to the reinforcing bars.
