2027 International Swimming Pool and Spa Code®

Provides requirements for the installation and ongoing use of pools, spas, and aquatic recreation facilities. Governs the construction, alteration, repair, maintenance, and use of pools, spas, and aquatic recreation facilities. The code sets minimum safeguards for safety, health, property protection, and general welfare by regulating how pools and spas are designed, built, installed, located, maintained, and used.

The International Codes® (I-Codes®), developed by the International Code Council, establish safeguards to protect public health, safety and welfare within the built environment. This 2027 edition of the International Swimming Pool And Spa Code® provides a comprehensive, coordinated set of model regulations for the design, construction and maintenance of the built environment. Structured for technical precision, the ISPSC delivers enforceable requirements aligned with nationally and internationally recognized standards. The I-Codes serve as a reliable regulatory framework adoptable and adaptable to innovative and evolving technologies, materials and methodologies.

• Improved features for identifying changes by using both marginal markings and QR Codes for print and PDF formats (Digital Codes show changes in color)
• Full color vector images in digital format of the codes in the ICC digital codes platform
• Code section number changes from 2024 are shown in relocation tables accessed online, and by QR Codes in the printed editions
• AltText of figures for screen readers for the visually impaired persons

Key changes in the 2027 ISPSC® include:

• Accessibility considerations are addressed with expand latch release provisions, and clarification of the distinctions between dwellings and other structures.
• Surge capacity requirements have been specified.
• Equipment rooms, ozone rooms and chemical storage separation requirements have been added with a reference to SPS.
• Entry and exit requirements for shallow-only public pools are clarified, recognizing that related hazards are comparable to those in pools with deep areas. It also permits small public pools to have a single means of entry and exit.
• Chapters 7 and 8 are reorganized to focus on on ground, storable pools in Chapter 7 and permanent pools in Chapter 8.
