2027 International Property Maintenance Code®

Maintenance code for buildings focused upon a range of issues such as proper function of plumbing systems, fire and life safety, and structural stability. Sets minimum standards for existing structures and premises to support safe, sanitary, and habitable conditions through maintenance, occupancy, owner/operator responsibilities, enforcement, and corrective repair.

The International Codes® (I-Codes®), developed by the International Code Council, establish safeguards to protect public health, safety and welfare within the built environment. This 2027 edition of the International Property Maintenance Code® provides a comprehensive, coordinated set of model regulations for the design, construction and maintenance of the built environment. Structured for technical precision, the IPMC delivers enforceable requirements aligned with nationally and internationally recognized standards. The I-Codes serve as a reliable regulatory framework adoptable and adaptable to innovative and evolving technologies, materials and methodologies.

• Improved features for identifying changes by using both marginal markings and QR Codes for print and PDF formats (Digital Codes show changes in color)
• Full color vector images in digital format of the codes in the ICC digital codes platform
• Code section number changes from 2024 are shown in relocation tables accessed online, and by QR Codes in the printed editions
• AltText of figures for screen readers for the visually impaired persons

Key changes to the 2027 IPMC include:

• A new definition was added for UNSAFE. 
• A new section 312 was added for Live Fire Training Structure.
• A new Appendix C has been added to address short-term residential rental safety.
• The definition for Hospital was deleted and updated to align with the federal definitions for hospitals where not all patients are incapable of self-preservation.
• 5. A new section has been added for the Refrigeration Detection System.
