Duration: 3.00
Together with occupancy classification, one of the most critical steps in analyzing a building for code compliance is classifying it for type of construction purposes. This seminar will address the two distinct aspects regarding the use of construction type in the IBC: 1) determination of the appropriate types of construction for a building based on the buildings occupancy, height and area, and 2) identification of the construction and fire-resistance-rated features associated with the nine individual construction types established in the IBC. In addition, the permissible use of combustible materials in Type I and II noncombustible buildings will be addressed. The scope of the presentation and discussion will include: Overview of the key construction-related elements that together create a buildings construction type. Methodology for determining those construction types permitted for a specific building. Specific features related to each of the IBCs nine types of construction. Special conditions and allowances for type of construction compliance based on buildings height, area and occupancy.
