Severe wind events like hurricanes, tornadoes, and straight-line winds can cause significant damage to a building’s roofs, walls and exterior claddings along with resulting exposed personal property and belongings. Mitigating against possible wind damage consists of strengthening a building’s structure, making it more resistant to damage from wind events through specific construction features designed to withstand wind forces and prevent water intrusion. This training will introduce and discuss the primary methods in which wind causes damage to buildings. This webinar will then introduce and discuss techniques and procedures that can be implemented on new and existing buildings to strengthen main wind force resisting systems and components and cladding to mitigate wind damage. Specifically, the discussion will introduce techniques and procedures found within the ICC-600® Standard for Residential Construction in High-Wind Regions® and provisions found within Florida’s Building Code. An overview of the key techniques along with examples to show their application will be presented.
